What's happening this week - 3/17

On Monday, the Kisatchie Fly Fishers hold their monthly fly tying session at the Rapides Westside Library in Alexandria. Time is 6:30pm.  Glen Cormier will lead the group in tying the Rosborough Hares Ear, a great fly for trout and bream. Beginners are welcome. On Tuesday, the Contraband Fly Casters hold their monthly meeting at St. Paul Lutheran Church on 1620 East Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles. Fly tying and discussion at 6:00pm, meeting at 7:00pm.  Guests are welcome. For more info, go to www.contrabandflycasters.net.

Also on Tuesday, the Lafayette Kayak Fishing Club holds their monthly meeting at Pack and Paddle on 601 East Pinhook in Lafayette. Time is 6:00pm. For more info, go to www.lafayettekayakfishing.com.

On Thursday, the Acadiana Fly Rodders hold their monthly meeting at the Outpost building back of Pack & Paddle on 601 E. Pinhook in Lafayette. Time is 6:00pm. The public is welcome.

Also on Thursday, the New Orleans Fly Fishers hold the 2nd of their twice-monthly fly tying sessions at St. Francis Xavier Church Hall on 444 Metairie Road. Time is 7:00pm. Also Thursday thru Sunday it's the Kisatchie Fly Fishers annual "March Brown" club trip to the Little Missouri River in southwest Arkansas.

On Saturday, and continuing Sunday, its the 3rd annual "Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival" at the Plano Center in Plano, Texas. Time each day is 9am to 5pm. Tickets are $20 per day, or $35 for the weekend. The festival will feature several nationally-renown speakers and instructors, including Jason Randall, Brian O' Keefe, Ed Jaworoski, Blane Chocklett, and others. There's also fly tying demonstrations plus special tying seminars led by Chocklett Matt Bennett, the "Realistic Master" Fred Hannie, and others. Some workshops are extra cost. There's also an IF4 film festival showing on Saturday evening. But what separates this great show from others is the "brew" part - several of the Lone Star state's best micro-breweries will be on hand for participants to enjoy. On Saturday, the Lafayette Kayak Fishing Club will hold their annual "Marsh Madness" tournament out of Coco Marina in Cocodrie. Entry fee is $30, $5 more if fishing the optional calcutta. Also this Saturday, the BAM Bassin Kayak Fishing Club will hold its annual "Oxbow Classic" on Lakes Concordia and St. John near Ferriday. Entry fee is $40. First cast is 6:45am, last cast 2:00pm. Any public launch allowed. This is a CPR tournament, anglers will signup using TourneyX. Total length of five (5) bass. For more info, check out their Facebook page.
