Topic: Marsh Island and Vermillion Bay

Anyone fished this area much and know any guides they would recommend? I have a map and can look up points of interest. Just need some ideas. I have never fished it before. Thanks! Paul

My Man!
Okay, I'll give you some of it.
It's usually very turbid.
It's usually quite fresh.
There are some of the widest tidal ranges there that I have seen on the Louisiana coast (Except at Rockefeller!!!), and the wind WILL demand you fish places you don't really want to fish or nowhere at all!
And though reds/flounders are fairly abundant, you'd better know where, when, and HOW to catch them at any given time -and that changes daily.
It's the toughest nut I've ever seen in Louisiana to crack concerning redfish. But man, once you do crack it...  emot_toast

Re: Marsh Island and Vermillion Bay

So it would be a wet and rough ride from Cypermort to Marsh Island in a 22ft Baystealth if strong southerlys abound. But Marsh Island looks good on the map and seems to be a good many reefs there too.-------Thanks Pete, PL

Though I've never been there myself, my redfishing friends talk well about Oyster Bayou at the sound side of the island. Take it for what it's worth! smile

Re: Marsh Island and Vermillion Bay

If you want to fish the northeast quadrant of Marsh Island, I suggest you launch at Burns Point. Besides it being a much shorter run than it is from Cyp. Pt., you might get into some specks on the way come early Sept. And if a breezy northeaster kicks up, the south shoreline of Morone Point, just to the north of Burns Point, is good for reds and flounders - on a falling tide!
Cyp. Pt. is a good bet in October for specks in the Cove and Weeks Bay - sometimes! And you will surely have PLENTY of company there! sad
Personally I'd run out of Intracoastal City and work the grasslines for reds and flounders, and not mess with the specks - unless they show up there big time this year. And if you just have to do it, the run to Southwest Pass isn't much farther from the mouth of Four-mile Cut than from Cyp. Pt. And if it's too rough for a 22-footer, then you shouldn't have been out there in the first place!. cool
A 22-footer should be plenty of boat in all but the worst squall!
