Topic: Coming for a Visit

Well my wife and I have watched the oil spill long enough and have decided that it doesn't look like its going to be a long term derth to the fishery so we are going to visit your fine state the last week in February and the first week in March.  Better part of two weeks to look around the SE part of LA and western MS for future spots to spend winters out of Idaho.

Plan to fish about half the days we are down there and just look around and sight see the other half the time.  And plan to drink way too many Abitas and eat way too much good food so we started diets yesterday!

My real reason to post is to give all you guys a heads up that you probably don't want to plan any fishing during those two weeks. History suggests that the third week in February and/or the second week in March will be off the charts fishing next spring.

Cheers,

Steve

PS - Got my bass boat sold so am one step closer to a new skiff!!!

Mighty fine on all counts. Just leave the snow up there! emot_toast

Steve,

When you're down here in late Feb/early March, if ya' can catch a pretty day, you'll be here at the very best time of the year to take on blue water fly fishing for yellowfin and blackfin tuna!  It is a blast!

While these tripsaren't exactly cheap, neither is the experience.  You might want to try Capt. Peace Marvel, http://www.reelpeace.com/

Re: Coming for a Visit

Steve, while you're here you getting all hot fishing you may want to try some of the other area microbrewerys' products; NOLA in New Orleans, Lazy Magnolia in Kiln MS (brews a great pecan ale), and Heiner Brau in Covington. You just may not leave. Tis weekend I sampled the new Abita SOS (Save our Shore) which donates $.75 of every bottle to the clean up effort along the coast. It's a great beer. Jody

Re: Coming for a Visit

I'm glad you brought up lazy magnolia, Kiln is where I call home nowadays. And your right southern pecan is mighty fine!!!:to:

Re: Coming for a Visit

Jody - Thanks for the tips on  ther beers. I will be sure to try them ALL!

Pete, don't worry I fully plan to leave all white crap up here!

Bowfin - I am well aware of the tuna flyfishing trips out of Reel Peace. Actually was trying to put together a few guys to do an overnight tuna trip the last time I was there last November. We were going to fish with Capt. Devlin but couldn't get anybody to join  my buddy and myself and just too pricey for two of us.  Tuna on fly is one of my current passions. Headed to NE in late September to give the bluefin another shot. Have hooked up once but no cigar.

Re: Coming for a Visit

ifsteve, my favorite eating place is Zeas and they make their own brew thru partnership with Heiner Brau (which Jody mentioned). Can't enjoy their fabulous ribs and roasted potatoes without a Zea's Clearview Gold.  emot_wink
