Topic: wanted: Tom Nixon book

Tom Nixon Fly Tying and Fly Fishing for Bass and Panfish.  If anyone has a copy of this and isn't using it anymore, or has read it...please contact me.  I am looking for a book to buy.  I would like the book to be in very good or excellent condition preferably.

Re: wanted: Tom Nixon book

I got a copy, so I won't be needing the book now, thanks anyway.

Re: wanted: Tom Nixon book

Kelly, glad to see you finally got your copy. They are VERY difficult to find... cherish it!  Even though I seldom tie any of Tom's flies these days (I do need to get back to it, tho), the book is just fun to read through.  Lots of great stories from a gentleman who was a true combat flyfisher in every sense, and held a passion for teaching to others of this great sport.  emot_fishing

Thanks, you are right, there are tons of material in that book to read, and absorb.  He has patterns in there too that I have never heard of, or seen.  Some of the photos of the flies are very small.  Most of them are just fine, and there are some I want to try out.  I in particular wanted to see step by step on the wire harness making ,but it is till a little fuzzy for me to figure out.  I guess the best thing to do is get some wire, and round nose pliers, and try it out.  I would prefer spinners on the hook shank though, not a harness.  I don't know why they don't make up some new books, even if it isn't revised...this is a book that would still sell in my opinion, and very well.

Re: wanted: Tom Nixon book

Kelly,

I'm not sure which of the three editions of Tom's book that you obtained.  The first two editions were hard-bound ( I have these), while the third was a larger formate, softbound edition.

Prior to his passing, Tom Nixon was a "regular" at the North Toledo Bend Rendezvous, http://pages.suddenlink.net/w/Rendez/indexR.html  .

If you come come to Rendezvous in Novermber 5-7th, I'm sure that several of us would be glad to show you what we learned from Tom.

Heck, if ya' remind me closer to Rendezvous, I'll pack couple of Tom's "Pig Boats", so that you can put "hands on" them.

That would be great!  I had already planned to come to the Rendevous anyway.  The part close to the eye of the hook is what I am really unsure about with the wire harness.  Seeing the flies in person are better, and seeing a harness constructed in person is much easier for me, as I am a visual learner.  I saw a video of Ron Knight doing the harness, but the video was not real clear, it was a bit fuzzy.  Thanks so much.
