Topic: Clouser colors

Most of my wade fishing in the surf is done with clousers. I pretty much have 3 colors that I use 90% of the time depending on water conditions. Pink/yellow, Chart./white, and all black with pearl flash. Just curious to know if anybody else has certain colors that they always go to. I'm a big fan of if it works don't fix it and I always seem to catch fish with these flies in my box.

Re: Clouser colors

Other than what you mention, I often use the LSU Clouser in winter: white or yellow body, gold flash, purple wing.  Geaux Tigers!

Re: Clouser colors

My main color is Chart./white...I call it Dularge candy.

Other than that I use Dark Brown/White, Red/Chart, Either Blue or Purple/White, all black in the winter time with a touch of silver.

Re: Clouser colors

Olive over white with black eyes works great in clear water. Also, sometimes I throw blue over white with chartreuse eyes--this is my go-to fly when I fish the jetties at Perdido Pass (Orange Beach).

Re: Clouser colors

Geez, I forgot about my own creation... the Pensacola Clouser!  Works great in gin clear water.

Spawned during a trip to Pensacola, when after catching a dozen small spanish on a regular clouser, the fly had no tail left, and hardly a body or wing.  It was then that the bigger spanish hit it.  Then it was good for a couple big mack attacks before even the eyes were gone!  Pulled out a fresh clouser, back to small spanish. Took the pliers, cutoff the tail, back to the bigger El Diablos!  (at this point, the light bulb came on emot_wink )
