Topic: Take A Dad Fishing Day
If you read my column in the June LA Sportsman, you know that the day before Father's Day is "Take Dad Fishing Day" at the Cormier homestead. It ended up being a late afternoon trip to Highway 51 canal. We had to wait out a thunderstorm or two, but afterwards we were rewarded with great topwater action. The grass is back at "Area 51" big time, and so are the bass. What they lack in quality, they make up in quantity. Master Jake caught 27 on commie tackle and fly poppers, I caught 16 on poppers. They like dark green, yellow/black, chartreuse/black poppers size 8. Nearly all the bass were 9-12 inches, lots of fun though on 5-weight rods and my new 6-weight Ross FlyStik. Also caught several nice bream, a few big goggleeye and a couple of spotted gar. All in all, a great time for Dad's weekend!
