Topic: Mangrove/Temple Fork Outfitters Push Pole

I have recently purchased a TFO push pole and put it together. I have used it several times now and I am very impressed. It's 24.5 ft long and very light.  It replaced a moonlighter pole which was quite a bit heavier.  If you are willing to put in the time to put the pole together it is a very good buy for the money.

Where did you purchase your push pole?  I need one.

swampthang,

I purchased it online from Mad River Outfitters   www.madriveroutfitters.com.  However at the time I did not know I could buy it locally from Larry; had I known I would have sent the business his way.

Larry, I'll need one that will do double duty for my 15' canoe and 22ft bayboat. What do you recommend?

You probably want an 18-foot pole. An 18-foot pole will handle your typical marsh pond in Louisiana. If you plan to pole the deeper water on the edges of the lakes and bays, let's say about four feet of water, or you need to pole across a channel that cuts through a marsh pond, you will do better with a 20-foot or even 22-foot pole.

Re: Mangrove/Temple Fork Outfitters Push Pole

I'd hate to be the one poling a 22 foot boat!   emot_surprise

you'll need at least a 22 ft pole...i have a 21 and it fits fine on my 14.5 ft skiff so it should fit in your canoe. However without a poling platform, a 22 would be a lot of pole for that canoe..ya might need two poles...also you'll need a way to secure the pole to the big boat and the canoe

that guy anytide (he posts in the classifieds) sells pole clips if you need them.

Push poling my canoe isn't hard. It's an Old Towne Discovery Sport, 15ft, 3 in. with a 44 inch beam. I can stand and cast comfortably, provided that I'm alone in the boat. May not get one for the bayboat, probably too much work and would need a poling platform.

If you don't have a poling platform you'll need a pole of 12 to 15 feet.
