I drove down to the delta with some friends for a birthday weekend (not mine), and my liver/kidneys are still paying the price. Good times were had, but I really wanted to fish! Wunderground was not too encouraging (70% showers), so I labeled the trip as a scout and headed out EARLY! I wanted to be at the spot for the sun rise...and it was a doozy. I manage to forget at least one item per trip, and today it was camera....so the iphone had to do...
It didn't take long to see some schools...at the first stop, I saw a group of small tails at the grass line. They had that croaker or mullet look, so I didn't pay them much attention. After a third or fourth glance, i noticed a big tail come up and then back down, so I threw in there to investigate...turns out it was a large school of reds tailing in 2 feet of water!
9lbs..no camera guy today. It was solo run. I really need some ballast up front to need the nose down when poling. The hull slap insane with the 7-10mph wind.
The wind was blowing me directly into the shoreline (the fish) that I was working, so set up drifts which helped with the hull slap. However, the boat would sound off when reseting the drift....not the ideal situation, but it worked okay

After 11 fish for the morning, and a "limit" by 8:00am...I was back up town by 11:30..and was at Dante's Kitchen for brunch. (that place rocks!)
I'll be back out there next weekend
