Sunday Suggestions

Well, I got a day pass for this Sunday and want to use it wisely. I am planning on heading down Hwy 1 with the canoe to either Golden Meadow or Leeville. I normally launch from a family members camp near G.I., but it is in the area that is still closed – so that is out (plus I need to learn new areas anyway.) One option is the Golden Meadow Public Launch to Catfish Lake – looks nice, Catch’s report from last week is promising, is it normally crazy busy at sunrise on the weekends?

There also looks to be a nice area for “combat launching” just north of Bobby Lynn’s in Leeville which would give access to the marsh north of “Lake Jesse” and west of ”North Lake.”

I’ve never been to either and I have yet to put “Saltwater Slime” on the canoe – What area do ya’ll suggest? Thanks.

Why Trout?

Alright, I feel the need to throw another curveball. Y'all get ready to swing at it, now.

Why is there this thing about stocking trout in southern waters where they have NEVER been before? I can only imagine how GREAT the NATIVE smallmouth bass fishery might have been if it would have been assisted half as well as the trout thing.

Discharge water from the dams being too cold? At Murfreesboro? No, smallmouth water gets to be a LOT colder than the water coming through the upper LIttle Mo. Or the Little Red. Or the Spring.

Oh yes it does!

Personally, I believe it's all politics - that yielding to the FACT that stocked trout, no matter how river-conditioned they might become - are turkeys compared to river-raised smallmouths.

So why would anyone want to go fishing for stocked trout when they could fish for wild smallmouths?

Because they can catch the trout?

Oooooooo

Okay, now you can throw your rocks, but while you are winding up to make a toss, think about it. ;)

Pete

Hello! Up for sale is a brand new 4 piece G. Loomis Cross Current 9 foot 8 weight. I'm not even sure if you can buy these in stores yet, and you won't find it on their website. I'm located in Lafayette during the week, and on weekends I'm all over, so drop off/ pick up is an option for locals. I'm looking to get $350 for it (price includes shipping). Laflyfishers have first dibs for a few days, then I will be listing the rod on several other sites...

Coming for a Visit

Well my wife and I have watched the oil spill long enough and have decided that it doesn't look like its going to be a long term derth to the fishery so we are going to visit your fine state the last week in February and the first week in March. Better part of two weeks to look around the SE part of LA and western MS for future spots to spend winters out of Idaho.

Plan to fish about half the days we are down there and just look around and sight see the other half the time. And plan to drink way too many Abitas and eat way too much good food so we started diets yesterday!

My real reason to post is to give all you guys a heads up that you probably don't want to plan any fishing during those two weeks. History suggests that the third week in February and/or the second week in March will be off the charts fishing next spring.

Cheers,

Steve

PS - Got my bass boat sold so am one step closer to a new skiff!!!

There's the Oil!!

In Catch's Tippets section, he has recently referred to a Professor Overton's observation about "where's the oil?" Never having been one to back up from a brawl, I contend that Prof Overton's belief (As per Catch) is flawed.

Sure, perhaps 50% of the oil from the blowout evaporated while on the surface of the Gulf - and incidentally, that's from a "blowout", folks, not a "leaking well" or a "ruptured well" as the media likes to put it, it's a full-blown blowout!
Okay, oil floats - at least it does until all it's light ends evaporate and the remaining sludge becomes heavier than water. Like it does when it's been "dispersed"! :ts: Then it sinks. To bottom. Where it sits until something stirs it up.
Doctor Overton doesn't believe that? Then let him take some oyster dredges and pull them around the bottom of Black Bay near one of the tank batteries there and see what comes up besides oysters - which, by the way, after almost 60 years of petroleum production (And losses overboard!) from that fine old field, are still the best in the WORLD!
All right, that's another opinion. Gotta stifle myself. Anyway, LOTS of oil from MC262 #1 is still around and will be for a LONG time!
And you can take that to the refiniery ;).

On my long plane rides i had a few books to read one was Moon Up Moon Down. it discussed the solunar theory.

It sounded to good to be true almost. It stated that most fish were caught during the 6 hours of the day in which certain factors aligned and caused negative ions to be more active causing everything from humans to fish to Elephants to be me lively.

If any of yall know about this could you give me information on how to get the forcast.
